Not my normal type of post today but I thought I would give it a go and see where it takes me. Thanks for reading.
According to dictionary.com, there are a number of definitions for the word relax…
- make or become less tense or anxious.
- make (a rule or restriction) less strict.
The relax that I want to talk about is number 1.
There are so many ways that people relax after a tough day at work, at home or just in general. Some go for a bubble bath with a glass of wine, others maybe sit down in front of the tv and watch their favourite programmes. I even know a couple of people who find that exercise relaxes them so they go for a run. I myself think that going for a run to relax is insane, it would actually leave me feeling more anxious than before.
I have discovered over the last few years that my methods for relaxing and de-stressing have changed. It used to be that I could just put a pair of earphones in and I would be fine. Now that I am older, however, I’ve found that that just doesn’t work as well as what it used to. I’ve noticed that I am now unable to just switch my mind off; I have to try and keep it busy and to try and not think about what I’m stressing about.
The summer months are always quite a stressful time for me as I have a number of birthdays to try and get for and with Tom being off school and out of a routine, it can be quite difficult to keep him entertained. Although this year, with my OH being out of work and myself picking up more hours at work, he has had the pleasure of keeping him busy. I imagine he now understands why I sometimes get a little tetchy. Anyway, it will be nice when he is back at school and back into a routine where he is going to bed at a reasonable hour.
There are quite a few ways that I can try and relax. I sometimes sit in a quiet room and read, this usually means me falling asleep though because for some reason reading seems to tire me out quite a bit. I’ve been trying to make my way through my latest book for about 6 months. I’ve been known to sit with a word search book and just make my way through it. This is something I use to do when I was at my Grandmothers how when I was younger. I’ve actually realised that since starting this blog a few months back that it is now one of my main ways to relax. Just by clicking on the little WordPress icon saved on my home screen on my laptop or my phone, I can get lost in someone else’s words or I can get stuck into writing a post of my own. The number of drafts I have seems to be growing by the day.
What methods do you all use to relax? Are there any ways you’ve found work really well for you or others that don’t work at all? Please let me know by leaving a comment.
Anyway, friends, thanks for reading, make sure to like, share, comment and if you have any suggestions please don’t hesitate to gimme a shout! J xxx
